Come to W&F Celebration
This year our W&F Celebration will run from Sunday 13 – Tuesday 15 September. We have embraced Auckland’s artisan food producers and will showcase some innovative leaders in our two Sunday sessions along with wine tasting of New Zealand and Italian wines. You are able to sample and purchase wines and foods tasted during the sessions. Joelle Thomson will share her love of Italian wines with a fascinating line-up from some of our leading importers on show during the event. Bob Campbell MW will host a series of walkabouts through the New Zealand Wine Room where he talks and taste a selection of wines that are emerging as iconic styles.
Former NZSFW tutor Philippe Meyer will join us from Christchurch to share his knowledge on fermenting foods (link) which is gaining enormous popularity overseas. This is a free demonstration class as part of the general admission ticket to the event. Our chef Stefan Loetcher will also be conducting free demonstrations on how to make sour dough bread and how to fillet and smoke fish at home.
Guest chef Alfredo Romeo, hot from Crab Shack, will present an authentic Mexican Street Foodworkshop where you make your own fresh corn tortillas, Cochinita Pibil (slow roasted pork) and chile preparations. Philippe will also hold a hands-on doughnut class (link) in our practical kitchen.
For coffee aficionados, we offer something quite special with Master roaster Steve Barrett joining us from Wellington for a Coffee Cupping Masterclass on Tuesday 15 September. This is your opportunity to transfer those wine tasting skills to sniff and swill single origin coffees from exotic locations like Ethiopia, the home of coffee, Java and Guatemala. You will learn about washed vs naturally dried beans, about judging the intensity of roast and also the new brewing fashions of Chemex, Aeropress and Siphon.
